THE CAREER CLINIC & THE FCC

KEEP THE FCC AND YOUR LISTENERS HAPPY WITH THE CAREER CLINIC®
If you're going to run programming that's responsive to the issues in your community, why not air something that won't put your listeners to sleep?
One of the few remaining FCC requirements regarding program content is the quarterly documentation
of airtime you've devoted to community issues.

Here's an issue: unemployment. When unemployment is high in your community,
that's a problem. Having a large chunk of your population out of work has economic and emotional
repercussions for the entire community. And on the flip side, when unemployment is low, local
employers are challenged to find adequate numbers of qualified workers. Either way, it would be
hard to argue that unemployment--in yours or any other community--is not a local issue.
Here's a program that addresses the issue: The Career Clinic. Host Maureen Anderson talks to
experts with advice on everything from discovering what your listeners are good at to negotiating
a salary once they've been offered a position. She also talks with people who've already found
their dream jobs--who have tips on how your listeners can, too.
The Career Clinic is filled with practical advice and inspiration, and delivered in a style that will build TSL. Your listeners will never think of
it as a public affairs program because it doesn't sound like one. (Advertisers will like that
aspect, too.)
You'll still need to provide and document programs to address other issues in the community but,
as far as the issues of unemployment/job retention/underemployment are concerned,
The Career Clinic has you covered.
At the end of each calendar quarter, The Career Clinic web site will post for affiliates
a list of the programs aired that quarter, including guest information and topics covered. This
material can easily be incorporated into the issues report you place in your public file. Some
samples are listed below.
A quick disclaimer: You're advised not to rely strictly on nationally broadcast programs as the
sole response to your local issues. This information is also not intended, nor should it be used,
as a substitute for specific legal advice. Our only intent is to bring The Career Clinic
to your attention, and to point out its added benefit in addressing a community issue.
